The 17th annual Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival will be held throughout July and August with the theme “Shakespeare’s Last Words”. The festival is organized by a number of departments and groups on the Notre Dame campus including the Shakespeare Theatre Association and Shakespeare at Notre Dame. The plays will be performed by the Professional Company and the Young Company.
These groups have been putting on events, speeches, and plays throughout the year to honor the legacy of William Shakespeare, as 2016 marks 400 years since his death. The festival will feature Shakespeare’s last plays, The Tempest and Pericles, Prince of Tyre, as well as ShakeScenes, a collection of funny Shakespeare-inspired scenes that answer the age-old question of what King Henry V would be like if it starred Darth Vader.
There will also be several Behind the Stage events where you can explore the plays with the directors. Admission to these talks is $10, though there will also be several free talks before the performance of The Tempest.
Theater fans in the Notre Dame area, this is your chance to have a lot of fun with two of Shakespeare’s best plays and celebrate the works of the world’s most famous playwright! Come out to South Bend, IN near Basney Honda to discover this amazing festival.
