With New Year’s right around the corner, many are getting their resolutions ready. If you have some bad habits behind the wheel, why not resolve to improve your driving? That’s why we’ve put together a list of New Year’s driving resolutions to help you become the best driver possible.
According to Consumer Reports, one of the best resolutions to have is to never drink and drive. Nearly 10,000 people die per year in alcohol-related accidents. Not only does alcohol make you tired, but it significantly slows brain activity behind the wheel. If you plan on drinking, be sure to call a cab or get a designated driver.
Next, don’t text and drive. This is a particularly widespread bad habit in the US, and it can lead to dangerous driving situations. Try to keep your phone off when you’re behind the wheel, and, if necessary, tuck it away in the glove compartment. No text message is more important than safety—it can wait until you’re at your destination. If a text or call is absolutely essential, pull off to the side of the road.
Don’t speed! Speeding is a factor is one-third of all crashes. Not only is it dangerous, but it lowers fuel economy and leads to added pollution in the atmosphere. Follow the speed limits whenever possible—they are there for a reason.
