Honda didn’t do too well in its 2015 Formula 1 campaign, finishing in ninth place in the constructors’ championship. The team isn’t letting that weigh them down and is ready to take the 2016 season by storm. McLaren-Honda’s new Formula 1 car, the MP4-31, is a new and improved monster.
The chassis integrates Honda’s new RA616H power unit which was developed specifically for this purpose. The end result is a more aerodynamic, powerful, and balanced car. Not a single detail was spared in the team’s relentless streamlining.
“Learning from last year, we’ve made changes to the compressor and other hardware of the power unit during the break, maturing our overall concept from last year,” said Yasuhisa Arai, Honda Motorsport boss.
Drivers Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso both agree that Honda has made leaps and bounds after completing their first miles in the new car.
Since its entrance in 1966, the McLaren team has taken home more Formula 1 grand prix races than any other. Now, with Honda’s mechanical and aerodynamic improvements, the 2016 season is looking bright. In the words of Yasuhisa Arai, “It’s good to be back.”
