Honda has donated two Africa Twin motorcycles to the Redondo Beach Police Department during a ceremony at the Torrance, California, Honda offices in late May. The Honda donation was made in support of the City of Redondo Beach Police Foundation, which will go to funding new technologies for the police department that aren’t usually used for police work.
One aspect of the foundation has been to find better ways for the police to get around than their current motorcycles. Officers have been considering that adventure bikes, because of their lighter weight and agility, could make good police bikes. In light of this, Police Chief Keith Kauffman went to Honda with the idea, and Honda agreed to the donation after officers tested the Africa Twins.
The Africa Twins have been upgraded with a Dual Clutch Transmission, as well as Honda Accessories like hard luggage and a top box. The police department plans to make more changes to the bikes to further customize them for police work. Chuck Boderman, the vice president of Honda Motorcycles, said that Honda is pleased to provide the department with these bikes and hopes they “will help the department’s officers to carry out the important work they do for our community.”
