You don’t have to drive a tank to get the best safety features in a car. In fact, the compact and certifiably un-tank-like 2015 Honda Fit earned a 5-Star Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)—the highest vehicle score given out by the federal agency.
This new rating further emphasizes the Fit’s safety. It had already been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and comes equipped with a wide range of standard and available safety features.
“The Fit shows that owning a smaller car doesn’t mean you need to skimp on space, comfort or crashworthiness,” said Art St. Cyr, vice president of auto operations at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., in a statement. “Honda’s commitment to the safety of our customers and other road users is second to none, and the Fit demonstrates this commitment in a powerful way.”
Helping the Fit perform so well in crash tests is its Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure. The ACE structure helps to redirect energy in a crash away from the passenger compartment.
Standard safety features on the Fit include side curtain airbags, dual-stage front airbags, front side airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control, and anti-lock brakes. For even more safety, you can add hill start assist, an expanded view driver’s mirror, Honda LaneWatch, and even a multi-angle rearview camera with guidelines.
